Said to be Europe’s most dangerous road… through the Albano Pass in Georgia. If not the most dangerous, then certainly the most challenging.

It’s only open in the warmer months (around May to October, depending on weather conditions) and only to 4x4 vehicles.
Despite being only 70km long, it can take an experienced driver anything between four to six hours. There are no barriers or guard rails to shield you from sheer 20 meter drops and it’s too narrow to risk passing anything coming in the other direction. The inside driver has to reverse and find somewhere to yield because the outside edges are prone to collapse.
Several waterfalls crash across the road, which has a rough and unpredictable surface, slippery in places, and with deep potholes hidden by standing water. Heavy rainfall can also wipe out sections of the road entirely, or trigger rockfalls and landslides, sweeping vehicles sideways with no warning.
The road claims between 10 and 12 lives every year.
