Living in the upper midwest, we don't have much downhill skiing. What we do have are places where there is a relatively steep and long hill and they build a ski area there and make snow. The entire area is usually about 5-10 acres. They usually have a club house, food area, ski shop, etc. Well the snow is almost melted now from the hill and I was thinking of asking for permission to hunt there. Has anybody had any experience hunting a small commercial ski area? With all the clothes and all, I am wondering if anybody ever loses anything other than teeth when they hit the ice surface or a tree off to the side (hey some could be gold I guess). It would be a huff and puff hunt up and down the hill and if others have tried this and given up, I really don't want to learn the hard way.

Thanks,

Daryl

Dont tell anyone but ski areas are a great place to md.My cousin and i have found some jewelry and a lot of clad. Our biggest problem is for the last two years somebody has been there before us. ;)

I used to hunt a couple ski slopes with a detector. One area that used to have a ski slope is now a state park. One of the areas to always check is under the ski lifts and near any club houses where they take off the gloves. You may as well dig every pull tab because many didn't ski with a beer in their hand. Some times they had a bon fire and sat on bails of hay.

I'd walk straight to the top and walk left then right all the way down. I suspect that watches, earrings would be the most lost items then necklace and ring after those. the owners may like the ideal of someone digging holes on the slope but they are usually covered with a lot of snow so maybe it would make a difference.

So in skiing, would that be a slice or a hook? I guess of all the places that have grass, a ski hill would be least concerned with someone digging. 4 feet of snow covers a lot of things. Hill could be covered in gravel and it wouldn't make much of a difference I guess

The club I belong to has first dibs on a major ski complex. We go there after the snow melts. It'll be my first trip but from what others have said it ought to be fantastic!!!!!

Growing up we used to go up to the mountains and slide down a few hills along with half of So Cal it seemed. I remember my dad losing his keys once, change, comb etc. over the years, this area is totally unused except when theres snow on it. I've often thought it might be a great place to detect, the hill has got to be covered with goodies, and shallow too. Might have to visit there this summer!
