Detector(s) used
Whites XLT
First of all I'm the only one in the extended family with a metal detector.
About four weeks ago I hit a gold (plated?) wedding band on my XLT (rang as a bottle cap.. luckily I dug it). It is my fifth, ever (four years with the XLT I just haven't found a lot of rings).

Went to my cousins (Spfld, IL area) two weeks ago and they showed me a ring they had found in the back yard about four weeks earlier. Sterling Silver with a nice oval diamond. I'm not an expert but it was the real thing and looked to be older.

Then this week my dad calls and tells me he was weedeating in the front yard and found a mens gold wedding band, 14k.

How is it I got the cheapest ring of the three? :(

I'd think their probability of finding another, before you do, is astronomical.

Of course, some people are just lucky.

NOT me!
I've got to work long and hard for every ring I find.

Persistence gets the gold.

I have no idea. All I know is keep your chin up and get out there hunting! You will find more expensive rings later on!

Trust me. I was spoiled the first month i had my detector and now im paying back with pennies.

I found 3 within 4 days as a newbie. They weren't worth nothin :'(

Hey, at least you have found ONE! All I have found so far as a newbie is a silver ring. It's a cool looking ring, but it's no gold with a big nasty diamond on it! Keep looking.

I used to have the XLT and I don't understand it, I had quite a bit of luck with gold, not huge success but seven or eight a year and know of others who have had success. On my XLT a solid 21 was a gold ring(mostly a class ring), I would say your not digging the right signals and missing the ring?? Maybe your coil hasn't swept an area with a gold ring yet either!! You should have better luck with your XLT!!

I took my son to one of his basketball games about 10 years ago and a friend of mine was there with his kid and he said something about my metal detector and I told him I had it in the truck. He wanted to see how it worked so I hunted with it for a few minutes just to show him and as he was walking beside me he spotted a hand full of change on the ground just to the left of us and when we got back to the gym he bragged about finding the hand full of change and all I found was a few pennies and a dime. Sometimes even with a metal detector you can get showed up and then get laughed at. Dang it, no way to win sometimes. I talked another friend into buying a metal detector and he found a gold ring on each of his first two trips out with it.

Hang in there. Some people just have all the luck, lol...

Maybe you should switch detectors. Yeah, that's the ticket!

I'll volunteer to make the supreme sacrifice & swap ya! ;D

maybe you are discriminating them out... ??? Or not digging enough iffy signals..

HaHa !! :D

I don't even bother looking for Jewelry. I live in an area that I think most people have little or no gold. I don't even look for the stuff. Just silver coins and other older coins. When it comes up and I find a nice piece of jewelry its that much more enjoyable. You can work it two ways, you can expect nothing and get lots.

On the other hand nothing owes you anything, so you have to will it to happen. Lots of my finds come because I think about finding it over and over. Then I find it soon after that the important thing is you don't get upset just be happy your outside and enjoy.

Keep @ it and HH!!
