Everything's good in the 'hood

The last couple of months I've been hunting a large field where I have located three home sites-two that date to the 1700s/1800s and a third from the early 1900s. Due to the abundance of home sites and relics I've named it "The Hood."

When I started hunting the field it had just been planted. Last weekend I hunted it for the last time until the crops are harvested; the cotton is waist high

As with most sites the finds have become fewer and farther in between but I did manage a Barber dime and silver Roosie (two firsts for me), a couple of wheaties and a broken tombac button with a little bit of engraving

This field has been a very good spot for me, so I have taken a few pictures of groupings of the best finds. I have posted most of them before but not in total. For me the stars were the military relics; each of the three home sites produced them. The first older site gave up four Artillery Corps cuff-sized buttons presumably from one uniform. The other one produced three South Carolina militia buttons, a dropped Confederate Enfield bullet and a powder flask valve. And the twentieth century site rewarded me with a WWI dog tag and collar disk.

This was also the best site I have hunted as far as coin finds

The coins spanned nearly two hundred years, including a 1753 KG II half penny (clipped for some reason), a "dime quad-fecta," a nice 1884 Indian Head penny and several early wheaties.

Here are some of the button finds, including a silver cuff link and the tiniest flat button ever

Not sure what this pewter relic is; possibly a collar stud?

Some buckles and a quartz spear point

Some odds and ends

And iron finds

Can't wait for cooler weather and plowed-under crops to find out what else is hanging out in The Hood

Great selection of finds from the "hood", these next few months for crops are longer than winter sometimes to stretch the itch. Best of luck on the return hunts when the harvester does it's magic.

Yep, the plow is our friend (even though it can make minced meat of some relics)

Each time... using either a different detector... OR... tweeking setting on current one.

Try after a good rain if possible as well.

Thanks for the gratis advice! I have already hit that field at least ten times, and plan to take up where I left off in the Fall. I definitely found more stuff when the ground was saturated.

I don't think there were any crack houses in this hood, but if I find a glass pipe I'll let you know :happy2:

Great finds. Id kill for a hunt like this right now. Been getting skunked lately and its just to damn hot to get skunked! Congrats but!

There's nothing like a plowed field to hunt in and you must have a lot of skill to keep pulling beauties out of there.

Congratulations on a great accumulation of finds. hopefully the best is yet to come. Mid summer is not a bad time to have to give it a rest with the scorching hot weather not letting up. Good luck when you are able to return.

Thanks JC-three out of the four were firsts for me First seated (anything), first Barber (anything) and first silver Roosevelt. Also my first silver Washington quarter; so needless to say I am pretty fond of that field!

This post was an accumulation of about 8-10 hunts in the hot sun. I know what you mean about the heat-it's now an early morning only type of situation.

Thanks; my friends call me "The Bulldog" because when I find a good, old site I keep gnawing at the bone until I have gotten most of the meat off. :dog:
