i have used the excal. 2 on the beach and u/w with good luck but what about dry land?i want to start doing some dry land detecting but need the advice on you all that do the dry land detecting on a regular basis.should i invest on a different detector only for land use? thanks in advance everyone. ozzy
The Excalibur is a good land detector just a little heavy a lot use them on land i used mine on land hunting parks around old home sites very good for land hunting............ ==Jim_K==

As Jim K mentioned the Excal is good for dry land, if a little heavier than a true land unit. The lack of being able to change to a smaller coil for trashy areas is bad. Wind noises in the waterproof headphones bother some, but a piece of tape on the drain holes fixes this.

It is always better to have a couple different detectors anyway.

thanks jim and sandman.well i will use the excal. for now untill i decide on a dedicated dry land detector then.like i said, all my detecting exp. has been in the surf and underwater...i know there are hundreds out there but what detector would you all recommend? i live in florida which is famous for soft sand detecting inland.thanks everyone...ozzy

If you are experienced with the Excal, the Sov GT is a land version with other features that come in handy. You'd love it.

Get a balanced shaft and change the headphones to Gray Ghosts and you will be good to go. The balanced shaft really makes the Excalibur a joy to swing. I can swing it all day and it really is comfortable.

I often use my Excalibur 800 on land when it rains and it does a fantastic job.

I also have the E-trac and the combination of the two cover about 90% of all my hunting needs.
