hello everyone, im new here and was thinking of buying a used excal.1000, but on a lot of the forums i have seen i see a lot about warranty work on this detector. i have owned several other detectors over the years and have never had one break, but none of these were water detectors, i understand the excal. is a very good unit but do they break often, thanks ronnie :-\

The older Excals are the ones you may be hearing about. Minor things like knobs becoming loose, etc. I have had my two for many years and only had to send the 1000 off last year for a coil leak. It was repaired quickly too and had a new coil installed. Water detectors are made for a tough envirnment and get dunked in cold water after having been in a hot car trunk. Treat them fair and you will get years of service out of them and they will pay for themselves many times over with gold rings.

You should study the Iron Mask feature that the Minelabs use. No other detector I know will report on a gold ring under a large iron target.

thank you sand man, my local dealer has one that is one of the first, he's a honest man, i have bought all my detectors from him. he sold it to the man that owns it now. he said he would check it out and let me know if it works ok if so i can get it for 400.00. if i do would it be wise to send it in and let minelab check it over, thanks ronnie51 :-\
