Has anyone used a Excalibur 1000 for gold detecting, and what results did you have? I am thinking of buying an Excalibur for mostly beach and in water hunting, but also want to try gold detecting. Will I find any gold with this detector, or will I have to go to something else? This will be my no. one detetector, so it needs to be good at most things. I dont do much relic hunting and not looking for anything really deep, (I dont think caches are really that deep anyway!)

Any thoughts on gold detecting with this detector, would be appreciated.

iv had 6 Excal's and about all of them would pick up BB size gold earing back or studs.i dont think they would pick up thin flake gold.but nuggets the size of a bb at about 4" deep should be no problem. on the beach i think they are the best you can buy there ability to null on iron will save you hours of wasted time digging bobbi pins and bottle caps. the Sovereign GT is just as good but box is not water proof. of over 200 detectors iv owned in 40 years these two are the best. the Fisher CZ21 would be 3rd. IMHO.

Dixie is correct, I have found gold earring backs but Excal will not find gold flakes.....There is no one do it all detector.....
