This button is in poor shape, need to clean carefully to get more detail but it looks like a CW New York button. I'm excited about this as it is the first button found on my property that could identify the source of other union buttons, box plate and sword buckle that I have previosuly found. The farm once belonged to a Confederate family (sons rode with Mosby) but I have only found Unioin relics here. There is a story documented in the county archives that a union soldier was caught trying to steal socks of the laundry line at the farm. Suppsedly he was beaten and turned over to the local authorities - I wonder if something more sinister happened to the poor guy.

Maybe the Union boys were calling on the Mrs while the men were riding with Mosby :laughing7:

Sorry can't help with the attribution of the button, but nice finds on your property!

According to the archives, the Lady of the House (Mrs. Dearmont) was quite a firebrand - she rode up to Winchester and berated the Union General for giving the order to burn down her home - he relented and the house still stands today. Doubt she would be one to "entertain" Union soldiers!:laughing7:

That was probably just an orchestrated front to protect her "virtue" :laughing7: :hello:
