Hello from snowy Michigan. I hope everyone's holiday week was good. I went out of town for thanksgiving, to my Dad's in northern Michigan and had a fun few days away.

I managed to get out for two rainy and cold hunts in the past week or so and didn't have too much luck, but a little. I am thinking this will be my last post of the 2007 season for Today's Finds as it looks like winter is setting in this week, snow and cold temps, especially at night, should freeze the ground. Oh well, it was a very good season for me, by far my best ever. Thanks to all my friends here for the inspiration and motivation as that is why this year was so good.

I searched for about 5 hours total at a local schoolyard the first day and then 4 parks further away from home the other day. I mangaed three little keepers all sterling. An old ring missing it's stone and a St. Christopher's medallian from the parks and a "J" pendant filled with CZ's from the schoolyard. I only found a little over 100 coins so I guess I am going to come less then 200 short of 10,000 coins for the season. I was glad to get out for one last hunt and then glad to get home and dry off, warm up ;D

At the schoolyard I found a disturbing find in the woodchips by the swings. It was an exploaded rifle bullet shell. Dang, I hope no one got hurt. It looks like something pretty violent happened to it. I can not imagine it was in a gun when this happened but who knows.

Thanks for reading and happy hunting and happy holidays to you all!!
Here's all my finds from these two hunts.
The keepers are in the bottom left as usual.

I'll say you had a great year, BDoo!! :o You're an inspiration to us all! I would love to see your year end post. Gosh, if I was just 200 shy of 10K, I would somehow find a way to get that 200. I know it wouldn't be easy with all the snow though.

Have a great holiday season!!

Hope you get a few more hunts in Bdoo, it will be a long winter! HH, Mike

Nice pics from the woods! That's where'd I'd be this time of year normally.

Another thought on the rifle cartridge is that it may have found its way through the chipper when the wood chips were being produced. Usually if a round goes off outside of a weapon's chamber it would rupture by splitting. I've seen this happen in the miltary with machine gun rounds when theres a misfire and the round cooks off after being ejected from a hot chamber. I've seen it with 5.56mm, 7.62mm, and .50 cal Machine gun rounds. Anyway, my bet it that the wood chipper did it, but anything's possible.

Nice finds Bobby. You really need to get that last 200 though, I would hate to be that close and not make it! I was just short of 7,000 myself & managed to get out a couple more times to bring my count to 7,000. Then I got out a couple more times (bundled up of course, that wind is cooooollllldddd!). So, if I don't get out again I'll end the year with 7,135 (not including foreign or tokens). Go for it my friend...you can do it!

Thanks for sharing your story and the splendid finds that you found. All of the bullet casings I have found that look like the one you found came to be by a fire or overheating some kind of way.

HH and Good Luck.

Dooooooo.... Your right buddy!!! Winter, she's a coming. I got out in the chips this past weekend and had to poke my way through a 1" layer of frozen woodchips before I got to the soft stuff... Kind of weird breaking up the frozen pieces to get to the top surface finds but it was dooooo-able. I'm $2.82 away from the $200 dollar mark for clad this year. I'm hoping to get out 1 more time to reach it.

Nice to detect with you this year and maybe we can hit the ice for some hard water fishing this year if your game.

Very best regards

Greg (C2MU)

Bdoo,
Great hunt, congrats on the bling there. Is that a Chuck E. Cheese token I see in that picture? ??? :o What year?
I know winter is setting in up there and it's easy for us here in the warm climates to say "get out there and get those last 200 coins", but let me just say.................
"get out there and finish those last 200 off!!!" ;D
Sand playgrounds should be easy to dig (if you can find them that is). ;)
Easy for me to say, right.
Congrats on a fantastic year Bobby. I wish you all the luck in 08'

We'll see... last year it froze then warmed up into the 60's in December, so you never know. I don't enjoy being out in the sub freezing temps and cold wet stuff too much and I never seem to find as much in that kind of weather either so if this is the last hunt this season, cool by me.

Happy holidays buddy, good luck to you!

You had a great year Bob, came a long way this year I think finding lots of goodies and 7,000!!! That's great. I am really pleased with my totals even though I am a bit short of 10K. I went out 61 times this year and that's really good for me with my busy schedule. I can't imagine finding this much again as I have literally hit about 95% of the elementary schoolyards play areas (easy pickins in the wood chips) within 25 miles of my house in the past two summers. I hunted over 100 schools this year alone. Lot's of swinging and digging but fun all the way! Thanks for the awesome friendship and support. We'll definitely have to get togehter sometime... meet half way or something. Take care my friend!!

Smiles!
Bobby
