It is not a task to learn. Though you should start digging all signals at first to get a feel for what it's telling you. Use the preset programs for awhile........

Dont be scared, be excited! It is not at all complicated, but if you think it is just turn it on leaving the power button depressed for a couple seconds and it will start in the factory presets. The factory presets will find you plenty. You will learn it in time. If you think that it is complicated then it will start to get real heavy and you will want to sell it, LOL! I can tell you now that it is NOT a heavy machine. My arm feels worse after swinging the exterra, one of the lightest made.

I was where you are at a couple months ago, I am loving my new SE. In two months I have found what took 6 months on the exterra, and that is at the same three locations that I hunt! Very impressive machine.

Everything that sandman and dam said, read your manual then re read it again. If you can get andy sabisch`s book mastering the minelab explorer xs and s that will help u some, but by all means study the manual first. The more u know the manual the easier it will be once you start. Then go out and have fun you will get better as you go along the sounds may overwhelm u at first don`t get discouraged just keep plugging away.

There are plenty of folks here that use the se and will more then glad to help u if u need it, these are truly amazing machines.

Had mine ~ a month, and I love it. It helped that I had borrowed an earlier model a few years ago - the learning curve wasn't bad this time. The SE is much more user-friendly, in my opinion. And a bit more balanced. Take your time with the factory settings for awhile, and then look into customizing the settings, one item at a time.
