Hello, all.Just thought I would give you my take on the Explorer SE. First time out with it this weekend. About seven hours total.I’ve been reading everything about this detector I could find.
First a little history about me. I’ve been a gold prospector for about ten years. Used a XT18000. Gold Bug, and SD220.So I know about detectors.Been wanting to get into coin and relic shooting for a long time. Finally bit the bullet and got the SE.
First day out, used factory settings. Got used to the clad signals right away. Had trouble with the nickle sounds. After two hours or so,I could tell by the smart screen and tone that I had a coin under my coil except nickle. This machine is cool.Pulled three dollars clad that first day.
Day two, went to an older park. This place had tons of trash. Now I understand what some first time users complain about. The fluity noises will drive you crazy. So I just started to listen for the high tones among the trash. Bingo, coins.By the end of the day I also figured out where nickles hit on the smart screen and dug a bunch.
The only thing I changed on day two,was fast on, deep off. Helped a bunch.Still learning how to change settings.
Now I have a question. Is there a way I can program the SE for jewelry only? I want gold and silver. Where on the smart screen does gold and silver appear? Ferrious ,Cond. Numbers? Any tips or advise would be appreciated. Also any screen shots?
Thanks, Bob

Where in NM are you from?

Hello Bob, I'm in Trinidad!
I am certainly not an expert but here is a thing or two I've learned about the SE

I suggest forgetting all the DISC programs right off the bat. Consider going ALL METAL utilizing IRON MASK @20. Viewing SMARTFIND, your good targets will mostly appear UPPER RIGHT and LOWER LEFT BOTTOM of the active screen side. Here's more on settings to go ALL METAL

Menu-SELECT---check CLEAR
AUDIO)--response (normal)---volume (10 max) Let your headphones be set for volume comfort.
TONE--Gain-10---TONE-thresh-5---Variability-8---Limits-10
SOUNDS---your choice but I go with CONDUCT
RECOVERY---fast-off---Deep-on

I crank SENSITIVITY to 32 whenever possible. If you are in a noisy location, I'd suggest utilizing AUTO SENSITIVITY as it really does a good job

One more thing, don't forget to GBalance before you begin hunting or changing coils. Be sure to turn off power to change coils.
If your machine does become unstable, simply turn it off and back on again.
If you haven't yet bought a SunRay Probe; it's a must have on the SE IMO.

Good luck, :)

Ground balance an SE??? they automatically ground balance.
You can use noise cancel to select the best channel to use or you can adjust the threshhold. Also your sensitivity can be semiautomatic or manual.
You should be able to teach it using gold and silver jewelery. This will allow you to set up a seperate program and save it.
