Got out a few times this weekend. Didn't find much...half dollar and junk ring were the highlights. At a park this morning I kept finding these M1000's all over the place on the surface...good for blowing stuff up :) I probably should have used them to help me dig up that copper thing...it was over a foot deep in hard ground :P

Are those cartridges blanks? What's up with finding those in a park?

It's amazing how many bullets I find in parks...bullets, casings, unfired rounds, you name it.

Nice digs TBGO. It's always to find a half dollar...and some fireworks along with it ;)

TBGO, nice finds. I'll be so happy when I find a half dollar. Congrats. :)

TBGO,

Great finds. Talk about starting your day off with a bang ;D :D ;D :D I would be very careful with the M-1000 (you probably already are), but 1 M-1000 is equal to a 1/4 stick of dynamite. Just be careful buddy. I would definitely deactivate those (put in water, take to police, etc). Who knows, you turn those in, it may make you look like a good citizen and open a lot of doors for detecting spots, or at least grant you some immunity in the future. Hope it helps.

Thanks Ron - I wasn't sure it it was 1/4 or 1/8...

From your link: "The power of illegal fireworks is phenomenal: an M-1000 is equivalent to a quarter stick of dynamite, while an M-80 has enough power to cause the loss of a hand or foot."

I guess they would have extricated that copper target without much of a problem :)

Your idea is good...take them into the Sheriffs office, tell them you found them while detecting...pass out a few of my cards...who knows what could come of it...

Hey Beep, that would be the best day ever for me if I found all that, nice going. By the way if you haven't found out yet, those .22 blank cartridges are used by contractors to fire nails into the bottom of walls on new houses to attach the walls to the concrete foundation. HH

I was in a car in the 1960's as a teenager watching from the back seat as another older boy I did not know that well lit off M-80s with the cigarette lighter of the car, (a push button Dodge Dart Automatic). We had a whole box of them and we were riding around as he would light them off in the car and throw them from the window as we rode around. After about 10 of them, one with a quick fuse went off in his hand with my face about two feet away looking right at it. Needless to say, we could not hear his screams for a couple of seconds or so but when our ears recovered, we realized the stupidity of our youth. He was missing two fingers and the rest of us had flesh and blood all over our faces with some small cuts from shrapnel. We drove to an Emergency Room where he was admitted. I never saw him again since he was visiting from out of town but I am sure it messed him up for life. I guess some of us are lucky we survived our youth.

P.S. Those things are water proof. You can light them off and throw them in water and they will explode anyway. You can tie them to a rock and throw them in the water and the fuse will continue to burn under water until they explode.

I wasn't aware that you could still get anything like that in the U.S. I guess they are still legal in some states.

Great finds. Kind of odd to find all those fireworks just laying around. Looks like it was a good hunt.

Man those are great finds. I think the M-1000's are better than find a Gold ring. Thanks for posting.

Ouch :o

I used to do stuff like that...as you say, it's a miracle we're still around to talk about it.
