Today I went through all of my bullet casings and in about six of them there was a really strange powder in. The powder is green looking and does not weigh much at all. It is like paper thin square and rectangle bits of pieces. The casings that had this powder in them were mostly practice bullets from the 40's. If anyone has a clue of what it could be PLEASE let me know.

Here's some pictures (the measure is in cm):

Thank you

Possibly a type of Cut Cordite Strands Made into a granular powder.

I have seen Greek manufacture 7.92mm (8mm WWII era Mauser) with square flake powder like that.

I found an image (they don't want copied) of a WWII era 6.5mm Japanese using similar.

Here's some from a Swiss GP90/23 cartridge (7.5 x 55mm). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/7.5×55mm_Swiss

Thank you, you're probably right. I tried to lit some of the powder and it was like non explosive gunpowder. It didn't burn fast but yet not that slow.

What did you pull it from pistol or rifle cartridges?

Smokeless powders just burn in open air.

Get them under pressure (like in a sealed case/breech) and watch-out.
