Real funny how this worked out... I broke my digger so it turned out I was having to cut my hunt short but before leaving I decided to walk the site a little hoping to find maybe a bottle button or some other non-metallic object... As soon as I saw this little green disc I knew it was going to be something pretty cool and figured it would be a wheat penny so I decided to take a photo it wasn't until I moved it and saw what I thought was a wheat stalk was a wreath...NICE! 1906.. Also wound up with a silver plated fork.. And several other odds and ends

Nope.. Just a couple miles from it.
A lot of our area is all sugary sand like that

nice .

Very odd the Geo Survey Marker was just laying there

oops Correction " Benchmark "

Geocachers also look for them see Benchmark Hunting

That was nowhere near just lying there that was almost a foot below the surface before I broke my digger.. Same thing with the fork just didn't take photos of it

I think there is a way to report lost & broken Benchmarks.

Not sure on misplaced ones though.

the original may have already been replaced

I will look into that not sure if it was replaced or not the area where I found it had old homes demolished and was bulldozed.. About 20 years ago

Very Neat finds. And hey, atleast you had the fork to dig with once the fisker broke...hehe. HH

Right...

Yea ? they say there is a fine for messing with them, but
I wonder how many have been dozed in the name of Progress :unhappysmiley:

Nice eyeball score!! Gotta love that sugar sand!!

I hunt in the low country of SC about once a year and appreciate the easy digging adn how the relics pop out!! Beats picking at hard clay like we do in most of the year in our sites!!

Thanks.. Yeah easy digging is great..
