Hey everyone,
Got out over the weekend for about 4.5 hrs total over two trips to a old overlook I've been working off and on. I always come up with a game plan the day before I go out and hunt.
I tell myself in the back of my mind exactly where I am going to hunt and how I'm going to hunt. It really helps. If you go out with no game plan you usually come home with less.
Alright enough of my strange theories. I'll get right to the excitement. Things started off great on Saturday. I pulled over got my stuff out and headed down a path in the woods.
Within 15 minutes I hit a indian right off the edge of the path. I was getting really good depth also. The moisture in the soil helps out. The conditions were ideal for going deep.
On most of the coins found alot of them were over 6 inches and deeper. I had a plan to hunt the areas surrounding the overlook and make my way to the site. The actual overlook is the hot spot. But if I get any keepers on the way there it adds up.
Finally I was at the overlook. It's a good walk into the woods to get to it. I had 3 indians and a v-nickle. Pretty good start for a hrs or so of work. Right off the bat I pulled a buffalo at the overlook.
I decided to work around a old foundation that is also on the site. Must have been a store or something there way back. I have found alot of silver quarters here in the past.
Well right upagainst the foundation I get a nice silver dime hit. And out pops a worn 1920 merc. I messed around for a little while longer and was happy with 6 keepers in 2 hrs or so. Packed up and headed out for the day.
Sunday, I got up early and wanted to get back over to the same general area. My oldest son Jake, came out with me this time. We picked right back up like the day before when I was there.
It started with a rosie about 25 minutes into the hunt. We continued and made our way slowly back to the overlook. We picked up more old coins along the way.
Again almost instantly arriving at the overlook I get a nice nickle hit. Dig down and out pops a war nickle. Rescan the hole and find a 1930 buffalo mixed in.
We worked the area finding a really nice 44 merc in like au condition. Along with relics and more old coins. I decided after about 2.5 hrs I had enough for the day. We had 11 old coins. I was more than happy with that.
I'll give you all a break down of the finds. 2 Buffaloes 1 1930 the other a no dater. 3 Indians 03, 06 and a 07. 1 1943 P war nickle. 2 Mercs a 44 and a 20. 1 1951 rosie. 1 1907 V-nickle. And finally 7 wheaties. One was shot with a B.B gun at one point.
