Well I'll try to make my long story short.
Guess I failed at that LOL

I've permission to hunt this yard for about 2 (yes 2) years and do to the drought haven't hunted until yesterday morning.
I knew there should be at least some Wheaties there and maybe a Merc or two, I never in all my days thought I would hit one of these.
Well we have had a bit of rain and the ground is damp so while the wife was getting her nails done I thought why not get the yard a shot... it is just across the street.

So I hunted for about one hour and had some great finds... Plus a Holy Grail for a West Coaster.
The front lawn has a 5 foot bare ground boarder around it so I thought I would start there as a test to what might be in the grass.

I had just started 5 mins. in and I got a kind of iffy dig me signal in the 90s.
I hunt mainly by sound (full tones) but this one made me look...
It wasn't solid and jumped around a bit, so I dug it. It must have been on edge in the dirt.
When I flipped the plug I saw a thin silver line in the dirt and thought pulltab tongue.
When I pulled it out of the dirt it was tiny and very thin and not the shape of a tab.
I gave it a light wipe and saw a Cross and about fainted.
I sat there just staring at it in my hand and couldn't believe what I had just found.

It's worn thin and small, but I found a Silver Cob !!!

I also found 2 Chinese cash coins - CH'IEN-LUNG 1736-1795
An 1887s Seated Liberty Dime
a small silver ring with a red stone
a 1955 Wheat
a game piece marked 200
a brass thimble
and a button with a flower design
plus a bunch of the usual yard trash and can slaw.

I still don't believe my luck.

Thanks for reading along and taking a look

That is an amazing hunt congratulations

Congrats on those awesome scores. :occasion14: I can tell that you're still stoked. :headbang: I know I'd have a perma-smile going if I dug all those in a single hunt. Good luck when you hit it again.

Very nice!

Now that you have that cob, wouldn't it be funny to make a mould to cast some aluminum replicas to drop in your future dug holes? :laughing9:

That's just cruel:icon_thumright:

thats some killer finds!

Thank you for the kind replies.

Deft Tones,
I did think about making a crimper for tab tongues for a second, but Rick67 is right that would be just mean...

I'm still amazed on the find and still trying to get a better idea of date and type.
But it's so badly worn and partial strike that that my never be known.

Can you explain "silver cog" for me? Seems to be a very early Spanish coin, yes?

That is sure a totally different bundle of finds than what we might expect here "back east"! Nice haul!

Iron Buzz
Yes these are very old hand struck/stamped coins.
Mine is most likely from Mexico city or South America.
They date from the 1500s to the 1700s.
Here is a better struck example I pulled of the web for reference.
