Well, this story is from 2 hunts that took place on March 11th & March 14th of this year.
First off, I am very fortunate to be able to hunt this location. I am friends with the Landowners.
They happen to be farmers, are both very cool, and they got some cool spots to check out.
I have hunted their property before, but this was my first trip to this field. They informed me that there was an old home there long ago. When I approached the field, the first thing I noticed was this sort of pit with rocks all around it. It has to be an old well.
Anyway, my finds were pretty cool over these 2 days.
1st day, I found 3 coins in about 4 hours of digging.
Got an 1866 Shield Nickel, 1859 Canadian Large Cent, and a very abused Indianhead Penny. Judging by how the shallow IH went off on my detector...I'm guessing its a copper-nickel variety made between 1860-1864. Makes sense when you consider the dates of the other coins. Also found a horseshoe, 3 axeheads, numerous other pieces of iron, and a few buttons.
2nd hunt, I found 2 more coins. Well, actually 1 coin; 1903 V-Nickel. The other coin I'm referring to was actually a token. Its an 1841 Hard Times Token; Webster's Credit Current.
The front says Webster Credit Current 1841. The hole is drilled right through the "18"
The back says..."Millions For Defence (sic)" around the Edge of the Token.
In the middle it says..."Not One Cent For Tribute."
Also got 5 Flat buttons on this hunt.
Anyway, here are some pics.
