I assume this is a fashion button but thought it wouldn’t hurt to ask the experts.

Kray is correct, as usual... your find is a 20th-Century "Fashion" button.
Although the emblem is that of the Royal Black Heath Golf Club, in Britain, these buttons have been very commonly used on Golfing jackets and other sportswear all over the world. We've seen several minor variations of your brass 2-piece button posted here over the years... including an octagonal version, aluminum version, and a 1-piece cast white metal version. See the photos below.

About the Royal Black Heath Golf Club emblem:
The crown is the British Royal crown. The distinctive Scottish Thistle is part of the emblem, on the right side. A golf caddy is standing at the left. Two crossed golf clubs at the center. The lettering surrounding the emblem is (supposedly) Gaelic Runes.

Royal Black Heath Golf Club.

Huh, that’s interesting! The local park here is a LONG way from London.....

Royal Blackheath Golf Club is arguably the oldest golf club in the world, having been instituted in 1608. It houses one of the finest collections of golf club memorabilia in the world, and is located just nine miles from Central London and only 25 minutes’ drive from City Airport. Originally designed by Tom Dunn, Royal Blackheath was latterly influenced by James Braid, and Frank Pennick.

Thanks Kray! :occasion14:
