Found a big home site with multiple cellar holes last fall and I finally got out there for a couple hours .

If anyone has any info on the button it would be greatly appreciated .

Other finds included a knife , couple door hinges , ox shoe, and a pile of nails .

Nice finds, congrats! :icon_thumleft:

Looks promising! Could be a good spot for a long time?

very nice finds

Nice!!!!! Congrats!!!!

Large dandy button 1770s.

Maybe someone else can agree to that.

Does the back side have a solid shank.

Nice early find I'd go over that place well.

Thanks for the kind words.

Jer, thank you for the info. Here's a look at the back of the button .

I found the button at the end of the hunt, I decided to walk a flat "field area" that is overgrown with trees . This was the only target I had in that area (only spent 10 min there). Cemetery on the property , newest headstone dates 1840 (a young woman 30y/o) , most headstones are faint and illegible . I'm going to try and get back there tomorrow .

Looks like your site has potential, but that doesn't look like a button to me, looks more like a lid or something. Part of the edge is peeling off (you wouldn't see that on an 18th century dandy button) and the back shows no evidence of a shank, in fact it looks like rusty iron.

Maybe a buckle or part of a horse bridle ?
