I went to my fave field for 3 hours this afternoon, I would have done more but the low battery warning tone started going off on the Xp, and I'd left my spares at home. Never mind, I did quite well today, and there is always tomorrow :laughing7:. At least the hammereds have started coming in again, and I found my second old key, 13th to 14th century casket key according to the UKDFD. I will post the link when they let me know. I also found a George 5th 1911 farthing with bits removed to make a medallion, a first for me. I can't wait until the field is ploughed, detecting on stubble is a real pain :tongue3:. Here are the pics

The other side of the key :tongue3:

Some of the other bits and bobs

Finally the hammereds. The one on the right is a cut half "short cross". I haven't identified the other two yet

Hi Colin, I'm going to have to get a book on keys I think. Ukdfd just came back and said OK to upload and the date range was 13th to 14th century. Some of the keys, like the one you found are obvious antiquities, some, in my opinion defy dating in the same way ie. they could be any age :dontknow:

Oops :tongue3:, sorry Colin. But you are right, I do kind of like it though. Something a little bit different, for me anyway.

:o

Ian can you confirm, on the reverse of the small round half penny, is that a star on the inner bearded circle :icon_scratch:

Looking at it through a loop, it does look like a star. First time I've seen a star in a beaded circle, unless it's damage of somesort from being in the ground :dontknow:

That will nail the ID if it is a Star, I don't have my books, and to be honest I have not seen that before :icon_scratch:

Hi Cru, 3 hammereds in a day is a rare thing at the mo', at least for me. We'll see what this field holds after ploughing, I'll have to have a chat with the farmer and see if he will plough it a bit sooner to give me a bit longer on it :laughing7:

nice key and hammereds ....you are on the crest of the wave, is your time ! :notworthy:
