I spent the morning, again, at the local creekside farm where generations carelessly dumped their pennies and dimes, with the occasional quarter and nickel mixed in. Today was no different, except that I was called to help the owner's cat out of a tree!
My first hit was a trio of wheats in one hole, a pair of 18s and a 30. I added a 27, 36 and 44 later. I was starting to worry that I wouldn't find any silver, but with six older wheats it was almost inevitable. Finally, I found an 18S Merc with heavy wear; I'll have to see whether it's good enough to replace one already on the books. Shortly after that, I found this United Airlines pin, then a dateless Buffalo nickel. I finished the morning with three quick strikes: two Roseys and a 41 Merc. Some of these Mercs, especially, seem to have been brand new when dropped. In conversation with the owner, I found out that they used to sell sweet corn and strawberries, among other things. I got to thinking later about them having a stand from which these items were sold. I'll have to ask tomorrow.
