Finally got some time to take the DeLeon
out for a test run.

Hot, muggy day in my part of the country. :P

Usually hunt the woods but mosquitoes and
ticks have been especially bad this year. Also
just wanted a location which would let me
get to know a bit about the DeLeon.

Went out to a Forest Preserve picnic area.
Lots of area to search and no problem digging
holes.

Just off the picnic area, out in the field,
the trash was not bad; more of an old farm
field type of situation.

Had both the DeLeon and my 1500 with me.

DeLeon is so light, 2.98 lbs vs. my 1500 at
4.1 lbs. plus another 11 oz for my Sun Ray.
Swinging it was so easy, this one I could
swing all day. ;D

Also made note of the sweep speed. You
can really swing it fast and it picks up targets.
Sure could cover a lot of ground.

Got this machine for a second detector, my
old Whites Coinmaster has seen better days ;D.
My Garrett is still going to be my main machine.
Have so much to learn about the DeLeon, :-\ but
the price/lifetime warranty/and what I have
been hearing about the DeLeon and Cortez,
said I needed one as a back up for now.

So hard learning a new machine. 1500 and
I talk to each other as we are hunting; ;) after
almost two years I feel that I know that
machine very well (and it knows me :)). Was
sure that a few times I was swinging the DeLeon,
I heard the Garrett snicker in the background. ;D ;D

Finds were clad and other odds and ends, always
need to find a horseshoe. Dug almost all targets
and played around with the discrimination and
sensitivity. Was running sensitivity at around the
7-8 position. Most of the time had the discrimination
at min. position.

DeLeon really locked on when there was a coin in
the ground.

Depth of most finds were 3-7 inches; cans most
often showed the overload/lift coil screen when
I passed over them.

Just played around a bit with the 5 ¾ inch coil;
seems to be able to pick items out.

All in all an interesting day. Sure don’t know
the DeLeon (about 3 hours of use), but we are
getting to know each other slowly. Just have
to use the machine more and learn what it is
trying to tell me.

Always have an office where I work out of:

Anyone using a wide scan coil on the DeLeon or
Cortes? Can you swing the machines just as
fast with it on? Sure would be able to cover a
heck of a lot of ground.

Did not think I would be interested in a wide
scan coil, but now I am thinking I may be contacting
Gene at Badger Metal Detectors and getting some
information from him. I can understand why the
Tesoro brand is doing well at hunts. Eats up the
ground.

all have a good un..

Welcome to the Deleon club!

I absolutely love my machine. You will be surprised by how long a set of good batteries will keep the thing purring too.

The only thing I have noticed on mine is when you turn the sens up past 6 it starts getting really buggy. I keep the Disc down on min almost all the time. Sometimes I will kick it up to Iron. It will work really well when you swing it fast but slow down and you can find some deeper coins. I haven't ordered the big coil yet but am getting ready to.

Good luck I hope you like your Deleon as much as I like mine.
