Keeping it short and sweet, just like my hunts have been. Just a few short hunts before and after work this week. Got a couple colonial buttons one morning. Then after work one day I got a nice 3 ringer, some odd piece of lead that looks like a buckle and 2 flat buttons, one being a patriotic civilian button. Next day after work I dug 4 sharps, I'm missing one. I don't know where it went! This morning I dug for about an hour and it was slow. Ended up with a beat up silver rosie, looks to be 1946-49 and a flat button. A little silver always brightens the day no matter what form, though. Thanks for looking and hoping to get out tomorrow with flyinryan2 and dig a few pits. HH!

So jealous of your finds haha we have some civil war skirmishes here in Cabell County West Virginia but its super trashy lol Awesome finds!!!

Finding a silver merc or rosie at a colonial site can be a real bummer. You just know its going to be a 1/2 reale, then its extreme disappointment. But you're in a good area so the early silver will come soon.

That's the only problem with sites that have been occupied from colonial, through CW up until now. So you get a mixture of everything. It would be nice to get in a colonial site that has been untouched since that time period. It's my dream!

I like those engraved tombacs!

Nice assortment Matt!! I really like that button with the geo design on it. WTG, Q.

Any ideas what the hunk of lead could be? Used for?

Good job matt.those are real nice buttons,I like the designs on them.congrats.

Responding to VOL1266-X's request to me for comment.

The lead object's three straight sides seem to form half of a square with rounded corners. Lead sabots are circular, unless warped out of shape by blast or impact damage. I can't envision how either of those forces could create that half-of-a-square-with-rounded-corners object.

Since it is apparently not any kind of a projectile sabot, if you want me to try to figure out what it is, I'll need to see several more photos, showing all sides of the object, from different angles.

It's always wisest to check before tossing a relic into the junkbox. :)

I'll get you some pictures up a little later. I've dug big chunks of lead before, but not one that seems to have a "shape" for a reason.

Nice job on the finds, hope we can get out and dig around that old school house tomorrow!! I remember you having all four when you showed me. Maybe you dropped it when you were putting them back in you bag?

Thanks. It's only February and I'm half way at my silver count for last year. I probably just jinxed it and won't find anymore. lol
