Its our last 5.5 hours on this field as the Wheat is being to show. We covered about 80% of the main site, so good enough until a deep plough :-\ (he rarely does deep ones).

41 Roman Bronze Coins today takes us to exactly 1000 for the year so far. Looks like we are heading for a record year :o

Bronze Roman Bell
Bronze Roman Locking Pin Terminal
Burnt modern coins from the recent incinerator crap thats dumped :tongue3:

The no. 2 & 3 picture shows a 20" hole that got the blood pumping. After about 17" Dad dug up a piece of broken Roman Pot (see large piece in picture 4), this made us dig a little more careful, as we had gone throw a orange sandy layer & into a darker material ::) We then came onto an interesting rim, turns out to be an old pewter dish :laughing9:

So did the Romans have so much cash they just threw away coins they didnt like? It sure seems like Roman coins are all over england in large numbers.

Nearly right, they chucked (or recycled) coins that were no longer excepted by the new Emporer.

It might seem like it, watching this space but it took me years to find my first, so they are not everywhere. Far from it.

Great finds Cru! :hello2:
What I'd like to know is how did this old pewter dish get so far in the ground? :icon_scratch:

Dave

We may never know, I assuming its only Victorian :dontknow:

It was at the bottom of a slight slope, so maybe a bit of land drift :dontknow:

Makes me wonder if it might have been used to conceal something? :icon_scratch:
I guess we could speculate any number of scenarios eh! :laughing7:

Every time I see your posts, I think about all those roman coins, and wish they where in good shape!!

Must have been a great fun day

congrats on the record.

Only one question, how many more fields with such a quantity of roman finds you have in storage?

congrats from an envious digger!

Not a record yet, we need at least another 200 by the end of year

We are unlikely to find another field like it that hasn't been touched. However, our research continues, we never stand still for long

Now that is Awesome finds !
