It's been awhile since I've posted but have been super busy with Spring cleanup and plowed a new spot with no rocks at all in it lol

Today I was digging deep trying to find shards on a bend in a sandy rocky/pebble area and was watching the water run thru the rocks when I spotted this little guy :happy2: And then the other rock kinda gave me a scare because it looked like a little monster face starring back at me lmao so I had to take a pic of it too, but I know it's creek spirit playing with me and better that than a snake.

What type of stone and type of point do ya'll think it is? The brown on the edges is creek patina, I haven't washed it yet. Oh and found the little flake right before I found the point.

Why is it called hornstone, do you know? All I can say is it took me by surprise and after the initial shock I picked it up to see what it was and then recognized it as that weird type of stone I find once in a while. Sometimes I find larger stones with a square hole in them, are they the same type of stone?

I said hornstone at glancing at it but it may not be. It is a common material here and is very glassy and buttery if that makes any sense at all. It is blue to green to black with most common being blue. I have some pieces of it and just looked.
Is the point possibly a worn down Big Sandy,, are they in your area? :)

Yes we have Big Sandys in our area and is one of the types I was just googling trying to figure out what it is, thanks!

I'm not sure if this type can be found in NC, but in my opinion this one reminds me of an Ecusta. The Overstreet says this type can be found in the Eastern Central region. I cut these pictures of an Ecusta from the online Overstreet for your consideration. Then, another type it kind of reminds me of is a resharpened Taylor but there was not a picture of it. Hope you figure out what to call it. 8-)

Can we see a pic of the tip straight on? If it has a twist in the blade it will be a Palmer if it doesnt then it will be a Ecusta.

Here ya go and do you have any idea what the material is? Thanks for looking! WP_20140504_001.webp

I'm not sure what to call that material. From what I see, it's either a flint or high grade rhyolite. If had it in hand I can tell. I found one gem mining in Alexander Co. and it's a material that is similar to that I believe. Mine was used probably like a bird point from its small size.

Nice point congrats you deserve it ;))))

Looks like the "face" on Mars.

:hello2:....how wonderful Peaches! That's a great arrowhead & other finds as well!!! & missed you :)

Hi kat! missed you too! I was on vacation last week but it was all work with Spring cleaning and getting the garden prepped and some of it planted but did find time to spend in the creek! Hope you've been doing well and betting you've been finding all kinds of things! Have an awesome day, I'm back to work now ttyl!

Well its not a Palmer so I would guess the other. Looks like flint to me. Its a very nice find.

So much creek, so many rocks, pebbles and sand, very very difficult to find...very frustrating but good way to kill time and enjoy outside. Found out it is flint though and still unsure of point type.
