So I took some time off work and have gotten to hunt my best site twice, in three days. I have been finding 'old stuff' (ie- square nails, lantern pieces, horseshoes, etc.) but I haven't found anything that really gave me a decent date, for my site.
Well, yesterday I only hunted for 2 hours, after the landowner gave me an awesome tour of his property, so didn't expect too much...
BUT!

Here's what I carried out:
I've ID'ed some: 1/2" Button is US Ordnance Corp (maybe 1830-40??); Cartridge is Peters .38 short rimfire(?); Above Heel-plate(?) is my 4th Lantern Wick Mechanism; Left of Spoon is partial Harmonica Reed Plate; below Button is (maybe) Handle Wrap for Rake or Hoe?
I'm curious if the woven-style chain is significant? Also the Lady Profile (pin?) &/or the Crown?
I also found more square nails, from Farrier-sized to 3 3/4" long, plus some round nails (quarter added for size)...

I'm starting to believe that this is the site of the Plantation House/Slave's Quarters that I had heard about, with the Pre-Civil War button? But, I'm still looking for that first coin!

BTW- what's the best way to clean the Lady-Head, Button and Crown? They are non-magnetic but not very thick...

Thanks for looking or any help with IDing/dating and always, keep on hunting!
John

Bottom row on left looks like the kickstand off of an old motorcycle. Gary

Wow! Thanks, I hadn't thought of that! Last night, a friend said maybe a hand-lever for a wagon brake, but I can't see that... I REALLY need to learn more about relics!

Looks like a promising spot, the coins are probably hiding in the iron ( nails) go slow and take your time, you’ll find them

You are SO right brother! I went out yesterday again, and slowed/overlapped my swing better and I found OLD shotgun (ie 1901-11) shells and several rifle cases. I figure that if I did that, then I have been missing other items, too! I need to grid it, too, but it's in an awkward place, so I'm trying to make-do.
I would like to pick out EVERY nail, sheet metal or iron piece, but literally there are thousands of them. So, for now I am trying to hunt thru/around them...
I need to get the new Nokta SP24 coil, too. They say it's much better in trashy soil!

The chain you found and asked about is a trace chain. download (1).webp

I think the "Z" shaped piece is a wagon or carriage step.

Very nice hunt, congrats! :occasion14:
