Hello all,

Unfortunately, I've only gotten out a few times this summer. The heat coupled with working a lot kind of kept me inside.

Anyway, managed to get out to an old hunting spot with a buddy last Wednesday, August 29, 2012.

We went to an old spot that we've hammered for the past few years. The guy I went with (Jim) and our buddy Rick hammered this small spot of grass, about 120 feet long and 60 feet wide back in 2008. They spent at least a day there that summer! According to Rick, they found at least 100 silver coins between them in just this spot of grass back in the summer of 2008. Just that 1 spot of grass.

Of course, those numbers were helped out by the day that Rick dug 16 Silvers in 1 day there.

Trouble is, there is a lot of mixed signals and trash in that area still. In my mind, that meant there are still some good finds waiting to be made there.

I only make it there a few times each year, but I usually manage at least 1 Silver from this patch of grass every time I go. Pickings are slim, but I know they are there.

Anyway, spent about 5 hours in this spot last Wednesday. I only found 16 coins total. 8 were clad, 8 were good finds.

The good finds were the following:

5 Wheat Pennies: 1926, 1940, 1944 (2), 1946

1905 Indianhead Penny

1902 Barber Dime

1959D Roosevelt Dime

So getting 2 Silvers out of this spot was pretty sweet. Haven't scored Silver since early in the year...So getting back on the board was real nice.

Jim spread his hunting area out a lot more than I did. He managed around $4.00 in Clad in also got 2 Silvers. He got a 1912 Canadian Dime in a different area of the place, but got a 1944 or 45 Mercury Dime in this same patch of grass that I was working.

Anyway, here are a few pics. Good Luck Hunting to all,

Chuck

Good to see you again. WTG on the oldies!

Great score on the barber, rosie and Indian  I'm overdue for another barber coin ;D

Niiiiiice variety, congrats on a great hunt!

Thanks for the replies...gonna head back to the Uncle's Farm tomorrow. Hopefully I can score a few oldies.

His farm dates back a long time. Its on an 1863 Map and the town was founded in the 1830's. The guy shown on the 1863 Map is pne of the founding fathers of the town, or at least one of its oldest members/residents etc.

Funny...I usually only go there a few times a year. I had never found a silver coin there until last year, then in a 3 hour hunt, scored 3 silver coins...which were the following: 1952D Franklin Half Dollar, a Mercury Dime (40's I think), and my first SEATED QUARTER!!! It was dated 1877.

Anyway, been there once this year. Got 1 coin, but it was a 1909 Wheat Penny.
