As many of you know, my first year detecting (2009) I recovered 5 seated coins... all dimes, with the oldest dating 1857 found on 12-02-09. This was my oldest and last seated coin I found.
D-Dub and I have been hitting an old area that we've researched
to date back to the mid to late 1800's for a year already. Last year I found a shield nickel here, and D-Dub found a seated dime, Barber quarter, and we both found a bunch of IH's. Neither of us thought that we were actually "ON" our site that we're looking for.
Well....., I called TreasureFiend yesterday and asked him if he wants to go to a spot that we "know" is old, we just have to "find" it. He was aware that this is the spot where D-Dub has done well last year, as well as this year. So the "Hunt" is on first thing in the morning.
After a long hike through the woods, up and down hills, and through the swampy mess of the thaw, we finally made it to the General Vicinity. Now all we have to do is find the hot spot.
Well, lets keep a long story short. After at least three or four hours
thinking my detector isn't working (swinging it over my boots to get a signal
), due to the lack of signals, I got a peep
This was a peep that BARELY came in. Actually sounded like an iron hit as you will see in TF's video. Depth meter buried, and bouncing between 02/47-13/48 and nulling (signal coming from one direction) I DIG!
I dug down deep and saw a piece of silver. Thought it was a dime at first, 'cause I only saw a small part of it. Called over TF with the camera and history happened. I'm only showing my find, 'cause I don't want to spoil the rest
Ended up finding an 1853 arrows and rays (only year of mintage) Seated Quarter! Yeeeeeeehaw!
Let's just say, I think we've finally hit the motherlode!
First is the Quarter, and then are some finds from
??
Can't open my Boca yet, 'cause I know what will happen.
One of those rings is a sterling ring and is also from this spot.
From Barber Hill to Seated City
Enjoy and HH to all!
