I took advantage of the spring like weather and decided to check out a new spot I've been researching. It was only about 30 drive from my house, but when I got there, there was no access. I decided to hit a small playground/baseball field which was near the spot. Being next to power lines my Deus was going bonkers so I turned up to 18mhz freq (knowing I would loose some depth). I spend the first hour working the far end without much success (only 1917 wheatie), but 1917 is good range to be for silver. Glad I stuck it through. As I began to walk the side closer to the road I got a clean high tone. A green disk appeared and that Christmas-morning gift feeling rushed over me.

All I saw was horse head, and I knew what it was.

A 1786 NJ copper! My bucket list coin, thank you!

I gently wrapped it up and put it in my significant finds holder.

About 30 mins later another large coin appeared, 1774 KG. Followed by a 1923 Merc.

I was planning on an all day hunt, but these finds put such a smile on my face that I decided to take the rest of the day off and treat myself to good dinner.

Here are few images:
I know there are multiple variations of the 1786 NJ copper, if anyone can point me in the right direction to better ID it's variety, I'd much appreciate it. I gently washed it in Distilled water and put it away. It has some nice details, so I'm debating on getting it professionally cleaned/restored (any suggestions)?

Thanks for looking team! Happy Happy hunting

Killer finds Bart. I wish I took you up on your offer to join you today, but the weather is only getting better and my obligations will soon be over. Congrats on a bucket lister. NJ coppers may seem common on T-net but they're not common finds.

Nice work!

Nice find !!! As far as the professional cleaning idea I don't know about that but few of these coppers are improved with any type of aggressive cleaning in my opinion. Let it dry out clean it with a frayed toothpick and from there most things you do will be irreversible and may actually result in a worse looking coin. Also the value of these coins is rarely enough to spend money trying to do things to them and that includes getting them graded. So what I do is just enjoy a nice find.

There is a small treasure Im happy for you! It was your turn Good Job! I would leave it as it is

Congrats on checking one off the bucket list. :occasion14: That's a sweet find.

Man Bart you are killing it early ! a good copper total so far and a bucket lister to boot
Sounds like a great day. As for id and cleaning the people here are great I'm sure they will narrow it down

Congrats my man. Those are two really nice big old coppers. Well played!

I bet DoninSJ would love to hear about this NJ copper!

I found one in my short career, it was in good enough shape to enjoy it.
