Scottish pin of a unicorn,
NIL TEMERE on front Latin I believe, and stamped Scotland, with TE and three stamps on back
What look like half a Reith a castle and a R. I have no idea what it represents, was found at my goto 1800 site not far away was this LG cent that I thought read 1810 but now is toast.

My standards aren't Hi but feelings of inadequacy start to creep into my head when I keep seeing great finds like Spanish silver on here and all I find for three days of effort is a mercury, ha-ha

Ya see? I rest my case. LOL

It's a family crest pin from a Scottish clan -- in the tradition of heraldry. I believe it's for the Ramsey Clan. It looks like today the Ramsey's mostly reference the phrase Ora Et Labora, but Nil Temere was an older crest phrase. See attached image from a book on heraldry. View attachment 1234616

I'd imagine that the pin would have had to be custom made, or very limited in number. I can't see the stamps, but that is a really neat recovery!

thanks for the info Iloveshiny

The Ramsey Clan supported Sir William Wallace of "BRAVEHEART " fame.
