For Pete's sake! Finally... no silver but I finally found another wheatie (1919), which is relatively old for this area.
I think this area must be sort of hunted out or maybe there weren't a ton of drops over the years but I did find this wheatie today. Granted, I was only out for about an hour and spent half that time just walking to the area that I wanted to hunt next to an old creek here that people used to walk around and do some splashing around in. I did find an old bottle too which I'll post once its cleaned up. I plan to go into the creek this weekend metal detecting and I'm sure I'll find some stuff worthy of posting..

but for now...

UPDATE: Here's the bottle I found about 1 foot away from the wheatie in the forest. Almost without a scratch...there's a small chip at the bottom where a number appears (5021). See images.

Glad you found something old in your area. Congrats on the 1919 wheat penny.

Sometimes finds are short but you didn't get skunked...I'd call it a successful hunt!

Cool old wheatie. GL on the water hunt.

Great wheat penny!

Congrats on the old S-mint Wheat Cent! :occasion14:

Great find there is silver out there. When I read your post about not alot of old coins or people just werent dropping coins I automatically expected to see you were in my town lol...Keep at it research and trees and hills for old coins my friend.

Nice!!! Congrats!!!

Thank you all... I learned about the creek in these books. I highly recommend them. You may find some small nuggets of history in old photos in some of these books from Arcadia publishing.. The "Images of America" series.. My local library had a recent donation of about 100 books from a guy who likes local history.. I'll be seeing if I can buy a bunch of them in the upcoming book sale.

Try and find the hills people went sledding on when it snowed you can probably find some old coins there.

Nice job on the Wheat and bottle. You are in Illinois, and although Illinois isn't good for much of anything, ( I know, I live here also ) it is known for it's history. If your not having luck in your immediate area, I'm sure you can find places within an hours drive of your town, going in any direction. Maybe try to expand your "territory" and you will make some older finds. Good luck.

Thanks Trezurehunter, I plan to hit the a Fox River before snowfall this year.. also I want to hit a county fairgrounds I used to go in Indiana when I was a kid

Nice wheatie! I'm kind of the same situation here. The oldest wheatie I've found is 1917. I would do cartwheels for an Indian head! LOL!

Don't know much about bottles, but do know about coins. That 1919s is a beaut!

Your bottle is an olive bottle from about the same time frame as the penny.

Nice finds on the 1919 Wheatie and the old bottle. Best of luck to you in your upcoming water hunt.

Good advice here.

Found a 1910 wheat on a much used hill for sledding over the years several months ago.
