Hello everyone,
Ive been reading the posts here for a few weeks now, everybody is so freindly & helpful, this is a great site! My girlfreind bought me my first detector for my birthday a couple weeks ago, a Prizm 3. I am in eastern Idaho & the weather just hasnt been cooperating, snow, rain, permafrost.........grrrrrrrrrr! I have gotten out a few times but it has been very frustrating for me, a couple pennies & many many pulltabs! My buddy Gold Sniffin Dog has taken me under his wing & has been helping me out, we went to a spot where they have the rodeo/fair every year & I am proud to say that Im finaly getting this machine dialed in! The pic is of my finds in two trips, totaling about 2 1/2 hours of toil, just clad & junque, but..........the nickle is a 1960! My first silver???? Please tell me its silver! lol The important thing is that im realy starting to understand how this machine works, how to actualy dig & find what it is telling me is there, It is realy quite a rush! I have to thank Gold Sniffin Dog for all his help & advice, & will be posting more pics of my finds in the future. I hope everyone who reads this finds what they are looking for & much more!

It is a rush....isn't it, Mighty? Welcome to the forum....Good luck. Sounds like you're doing everything right. Looks like you're doing everything right, too. ;)

Hey AP, Looks like some nice finds. The good stuff will come,
and you know what, everyone of us on here digs pull tabs, all kinds of
junk and we still love this hobby. We all dig junk.

I carry a big plasticcan in my car to put the junk into and when I get
home I go through, just to make sure there isn't anything that might be good from being
thrown away. I always pick up everything I dig and one time in a field,
I dug up what I thought was a washer, come to find out after I got it
home and cleaned it up, it was a Civil War Token. You just never know
what you will find metal detecting.

The funny thing about this hobby is ....You just never know what your going to find and one day you just hit paydirt....one find after another and what it is depends on the areas your hunting! that is when the research and knowing where your hunting pays off....Thanks for the post and good luck in the future!!!!

Hey AP, I am a newbie to the forum as well. Those are some nice looking finds. Bad news on the nickel though...I believe the only nickels that contain silver are "war nickels" from the WW2 era and I think those only had like 30% silver in them. If i am wrong somebody please correct me. Sorry for the bad news on the silver(I think).

Keep on Keeping on and Happy Hunting!

Thanks for the encouragement & the great advice everybody. And Diamond Jim, PM your address to me & I'll mail you the "R"..................seriously! & I'll send you every "R" I dig up from here on out. Ive read that the state of Idaho is rich with "IRON R",(although it was misspelled, IRON ORE) so your collection may soon multiply! ;D

How you doing AP? I'm a newbie from Idaho myself ( I'm up north though). Great finds and it looks like your doing everything right. As for the nickel, sorry but the only time silver was used in a 5 cent piece was between 1942-1945 (War Nickles) there was 35% silver in them though.

Anyway Have Fun and Keep it Up

Welcome and good luck in your treasure hunting adventures. Learn your machine well and keep swinging. If you have be addicted to something, this isn't a bad one, but there is no known cure. HH.

Welcome to the forum and good luck, it will get better! HH, Mike

Welcome Mighty, looks like you did pretty good. Sometimes this detecting is not as easy as it looks. I try to read the forum as much as I can, and pick up some valuable tips. Half of the fun is trying to get better at this hobby. I think if it was too easy it would be boring. It's good you had someone to give you some advice to get you started.

Nice hunts AP. Hope you find lots more. Be patient. HH Burdie

AP,

Welcome to the forum, nice finds...the best is yet to come. Keep on swinging.

Thats a very sweet girlfriend to buy you a detector for your birthday! Happy belated birthday and welcome to the forum.
I'd say that water nozzle was a pretty sweet find. Water the dog, wash the car, squirt the neighborhood paper boy, lol. Thats one of the old durable kind too, they take a beating. Plus you're a nickel richer and alot more curious. And you're right, there are some great people that hang out here with alot of knowledge. I appreciate the site and its guests too, when you ask a question here its like booting into a super library.

Happy Hunting and may you always have spare batteries.
