They are different due to the flooding can really scatter artifacts about making it harder to find a concentrated area of flakes but there are still spots that you will find that and it usually means points near by. Can you post pics of the big flint pieces you found ? They could be cores which would be a good indicator that your in the rite area.
 

Arrow 86, Here are a few pieces. One actually looks to have been “worked” a little on one end.

Where are you in KY? KY has lots of good flint, quarries, and sites. Those pieces you posted look pretty poor. Are you looking for flint to knap or sources for flint the Indians used? Gary
 

You should be seeing flakes, cores and/or firerock if you are in a good spot. I would keep walking or go elsewhere if I wasn't seeing better indications.

That’s what I was looking for Shorewalker. I am a little surprised that I found nothing. The creek runs thru a large bottom that has produced many many artifacts. I may move on down a little further and give it a try.

Neither. Looking for artifacts. Per original post, I was using the type of flint to pose a question; keep looking in this area or move on.
