silverfreak proved his mettle and name today with a nice haul of silver (Today's Finds). He brought up an interesting ability of the SE.....getting silver responses thru heavy iron nulling. I am curious if silverfreak or others might add comments about this ability.

What kind of sound response are you looking for? Does the machine chirp, barely hinting at a good target? Is it easy to learn how to set the machine up for this ability? Real slow sweep? Do you use TID? Can the E-trac do it?

I have to very my speed to find silver on top of or very close to iron. In that kind of environment, most of the time I'm moving at a snails pace. That's how I get the machine to chirp or lock onto silver. Then I wiggle it out.

I notice that too.

I've had quite a bit of success when the Minelab is "nulling", best thing I can offer you is to go S-L-O-W and listen for those sounds, some are crappy and have that "coin sound" that you should dig. The detector will pick those coin sounds up and you might dig nails or iron, but might also dig a Seated coin that many have either passed up or hunters totally avoided the area. Bryce has great luck in these areas and if you read his posts he always tells you he hunts slow, or has a "iffy" signal or a crappy signal. You may not have his success(not luck), but the more you do hit areas where it nulls, the slower you go will increase your pouch with goodies.

Thanks guys. I'm convinced that I'll go with a Minelab and I'm just trying to get a heads-up on the capabilities. I'm still following the Safari, which I think might do the trick also.

It sounds like my Soveriegn behaves much the way as the SE.
