Finds from the Beach - Got some cash & a Hummer!

Sorry about the title, but I couldn't resist! :laughing7:
Hope everybody's having a great summer this year! Wow! Has it ever been hot here over the past 3 weeks! :sunny: My wife's had me working like a dog . . . :icon_queen: :whip2: sanding and staining both the front porch and the back deck in this heat! :'( So we decided to take a short 3 day holiday to Eastern Ontario this week and took a side trip to Sandbanks Provincial Park yesterday. Unfortunately, no gold or jewelery, even though I hunted in the surf for an hour and on the beach for about 2 hours! I ended the day with $5.68 in cash and a really nice Hummer! :laughing7:

Happy Hunting everybody! :hello:
Dave

Re: Finds from the Beach - Got some cash & a Hummer!

Dave, You REALLY got to put that sunblock on!

Nice finds too. I like Canada for their 1$ and 2$ coins.

Re: Finds from the Beach - Got some cash & a Hummer!

D-mn, that water looks refreshing right about now. I'm right there with you with this heat Dave. I felt guilty hiring a young man to cut my lawn and trim the bushes yesterday while I was out detecting. :laughing9: Congrats on the recoveries. Is that a gold coin I see on the right side of one of those pictures? :icon_scratch:

Hey Doug!

Don't feel too bad about hiring a guy to cut your lawn, the way I see it . . . your creating jobs! :laughing7: The "gold coin" you see is actually the flash from my camera shining off a Canadian Dime!

Thanks for posting buddy,
Dave

Re: Finds from the Beach - Got some cash & a Hummer!

Herbie, I've never heard the term "vermeil" used before, so I looked it up . . .

Vermeil

Vermeil, a French word which came into use in the English language, mostly in America, in the 19th century as an alternative for the usual term silver-gilt, is a combination of sterling silver, gold, and other precious metals. It is commonly used as a component in jewelry. A typical example is sterling silver coated with 14 carat (58%) gold. To be considered vermeil, the gold must be at least 10 carat (42%) and be at least 2.5 micrometres thick. In the US, sterling silver covered with a base metal (such as nickel) and plated with gold cannot be sold as vermeil without disclosing that it contains base metal. Vermeil can be produced by either fire-gilding or electrolysis. The original fire-gilding process was developed in France in the mid-18th century; however, France later banned the production of vermeil because over time artisans developed blindness due to mercury involved in the process. Today, vermeil is safely produced by electrolysis.

Re: Finds from the Beach - Got some cash & a Hummer!

I go out and got that red once and I said I will never go out wihtout sunblock again. The part of me that gets hit the most is the back of my neck. It was really red once and everytime I looked up or turned my head I was quickly reminded that I should have worn sunblock.

Nice finds though. My wife has me doing just about the same thing. She wants to do some painting inside and our house is older and she wants me to sand all the doors down this weekend so we can add a fresh coat. I love Kilz, gonna do a rough sanding with a palm sander and slap some kilz on it and hang em back up.

I hear you buddy! :laughing7: We've got a new outdoor play ground coming for my daughter tomorrow and my wife had me doing a bunch of landscaping and sodding to get ready for it today! :'(

Here's what my daughter has to look forward to . . .

Thanks for your post,
Dave

It is the best of gold plated items, the silver base allows the gold to bind and last much longer.
looks like a fun playplace !!! stay cool
