I'm a collector of gas & oil advertising and can likely help but a picture is a must. At the bottom right of the page you'll see a button that says "Go advanced".. Click that and then choose "Manage attachments" and add the pics. If that dosn't work send me a pm and I'll give you my email address and post them for you. To date many of those old signs look for a code on the edge of the sign with numbers. Here's a Texaco pump I recently restored and at the bottom edge of the sign is 3-63. The sign was made in March of 1963. Wish I could get some gas out of it. The price is 27.9 cents a gallon. By the way Fire Chief was regular leaded gas and Sky Chief was leaded Premium.

LOL.. yeah there is that... That it says "localized for your driving area" leads me to think 50s or 60s. That was a thing they did to advertise the fact that the exact formula varied from one area to another. For example the far North likely had a bit of dry gas in it to prevent frozen gas lines.

You said there's no Texaco star ? Let me guess... a Red Fireman's hat ?

Sorry I did forget to say there is a hat then fire chief in large red letters and gasoline in black. That has a white background. Then the localized statement is in white on red. I have looked for letters or numbers on edges but too rusty on edges to see

Without pictures it's likely 50s-60s and probably not any newer that that. By the mid to late 60s the switch to plastic signs was in full swing. The 1963 sign on the gas pump I posted is Porcelain. My offer to post the pics for you still stands and that will tell the story but I'm off to watch a little tv in a few. This one sold recently on Ebay for $112. Is this what you have ? Obviously with this type of thing condition is everything.

Here is the pic of Kristianne's sign. Since one side is really bad and this is the good side it's my guess it was used to patch the roof or a wall of the barn at one time. This was common in the days when these weren't worth anything as "collectibles". The old farmers just saw it as free metal and used them as needed. This one has seen better days. It also dosn't look like Porcelain to me. Painted tin more likely.

NHBandit I think your right about it being a painted sign because if you bend a porcelain sign like that one the porcelain will break. Still a nice sign though.
