Detector(s) used
ACE 250
Hey kids:

Here's my finds from land that used to contain an amusement park. It closed in 1969. The weird thing isn't finding a fire hydrant, it's finding 2 of them within 50 feet of each other. I may have wandered into what land that was once a private girl's Catholic school that boarded students at one time. The main building is now a library.
WOW did I have fun back there with the Ace 250! As you can see I found the cap to the busted hydrant rught next to it. There's also what seems to be a now-disappered path or road lined by trees. Unfortunatly there's also OODLES AND OODLES of Poison Ivy back there. The last time I got it I had it on all but 1 part of my body- my right eye swelled shut! :blob8: Oh that was bad- and I wasn't even detecting.
So can anybody figure out why the heck there'd be 2 hydrants that close to eachother? The area is almost totally overgrown with English Ivy. I am so psyched. Last year I went back there with my hoopty detector and didn't find much but I have this hunch... ;D Also if anybody knows of a pre-emptive strike to keep from getting Poison Ivy (other than keeping the peepers peeled) for God's sake please share!

Cheers...

There is a cream/lotion. I think it's called Ivy Block/Liquid glove. I can't remember. It's near the poison ivy stuff in LARGER pharmacy stores or mega marts. I haven't had to look for it for years. It DOES work!

Detecting is great fun but the rule is: "leaves-of-three, let-them-be." Great coin finds and great persistance in hunting, poision ivy guy. The problem is you will now and forever be know by your new initials p_i_g = poison ivy guy. LOL sorry, it was too good to pass up. Hope you heal soon!

Ah, sore knees, you've made a mistake!
I'm a chick!  :icon_queen:
Well, I'll settle for poison ivy girl. God knows I've been called MUCH nastier things than pig! The bodily siege of poison ivy was when I rooted it all out of a flowerbed and didn't know to look for it. Man, there's a mistake I won't make again.

So, any takers on why the heck there'd be 2 fire plugs that close?

Some over-zealous fire inspector decided that one wasn't enough to serve whatever structures were nearby ?

Two sources of water ? - One city main, one possibly an artesian well source ? (we have quite a few artesian hydrants up this way)

Diggem'

2 sources of water... well they are both within hmmm... I'd say maybe 1,500 of Lake Erie. The well thing wouldn't be a shock since there is a creek emptying into the lake within 1/2 a mile. I am trying to get a map of this amusement park and ye olde internet is confounding me with its ineptitude! This is driving me nuts. I have the next 3 days off and it's going to take a large miracle to keep my dupa out of those woods! The digging-bug hasn't bit me this hard in a long time. My parents both lived close to this place as teens. My dad used to connive my mom into going on the Rotor just to tick her off since her pants would rip in the back :P

dress in full clothes even if it is hot, long sleeves, gloves etc Is the best I found to stay clean of ivey.

Nice post enjoyed it very much. HH

If anybody's interested, I know I am. I've never seen this in the stores by my house but within a week I'll have it in the mailbox. Oh, the internet, at one moment she confounds, the next she makes dreams come true...

Just wondering do you plan to test it?

Darn tootin'! I got nothing to lose. I'm super allergic to Poison Ivy but damn if I want to be out in 85 degrees and 70% humidity in jeans! It won't be the first time I've wandered into the UrgentCare looking like I lost a fight. There's SOMETHING in those woods and I'm gonna find it! This would be the textbook example of a "hunted out" area, but what people fail to remember is that detectors are better every year, plus there's just not many detector-ists around here.

ok good luck to your hunt and good luck to you,

I like your spunk cheddar!!

Keep at it and throw the ol' ace into jewelry mode when you go out. Your finds will increase greatly!!

When digging around fire hydrants, always wash your hands afterwards...

And don't bite your fingernails...

Dog pee

IVY BLOCK ! That's it. I remembered it had a big red label on it.
Can't find it locally eh? HM. Might be too early for them to stock it. Although my shops have it, or it's cousin year 'round down here in Dayton.

There may have been a wall or fence between the two at one time. As this was an old amusement park they had lots of weird structures. So access to the hydrants had to be assured. The old structures were of wood and highly flamable time would have been of the essence.

I also use ACE250 good coin machine. I am still learning its characteristics. It is at least beginning to talk to me. Slow and low. HH

A wall! A fence!  :icon_scratch: why didn't i think of that?! I am having a reeeal hard time finding a map of this place. it's only been closed 40 years! Like I was saying tho I may have wandered into the school section of the woods. There's 2 or 3 clearings back there that are too big and uniform-shaped to be concequential, plus a very straight path lined with pine trees. Ohh how I yearn for tomorrow when I head back in there! And the dog pee... If I took Marvin back there I'd bet a pack of AA batteries he'd whiz all over it. Well off to Walgreen's (I called ahead) and then... To work! I think there was more than 1 building back there but that was ages ago. Oh boy!  :o

nice job! I do not know why two fire hydrants were stuck together. That is odd! :o

I live in southern california and am getting over yet another bout of poison oak. I happen to hunt here in the City of Thousand Oaks and there is poison oak EVERYwhere and as carfull as I try to be I always seem to get it somehow.

Excellent attatude Mellow, good luck with the
ivy and let us know what else you find. Jim
