I was up at one of my small banks yesterday and noticed in the tellers tray some odd looking coins.I asked what they were and come to find out that they were all Kennedy halves. She said someone brought them in and they looked like they had been in a fire. They were reddish/black and a couple were buckled a little. She said she had tried cleaning them some.I didn't check the dates as I'm not really into coin collecting. So if anyone lives near Climax Springs,MO and would like them,I guess they are still there. There was probably 10-12 of them. The only bank in town.

Ok,I went back and bought them,13 of them.6 are dated in the 90's,2 dated in the 80's,and 5 dated from '72-77.I guess melt value gives me a profit?

i had some that a teller said --look they were in a fire , got $5 worth , you want em? --she held one up --it was clear to me it was just heavily tarnished silver -- told her - ya I'll take em off yer hands -- 7 out of the 10 were silver - one was a 64 :icon_thumright: easy money

Sounds like you just got some black halves.

Check out the coin hunting forum.

Halves, quarters, dimes 1964 and before are 90%.

Halves 1965 thru 1970 are 40%.

War Nickles recognized by the mint mark above the dome.

That's the basics in a nut shell.

And

Shhhhh, don't mention silver to the tellers.

Nice, my family used to own some land near Climax Springs on the lake but they've since sold it.

Sorry, no silver for you.
