I went to a park that I am pretty sure has been there for a long time. It isn't on any map. Today there was a group of kids there from some kind of day camp. Probably should have not even stepped out of the truck. I stayed away and so did they but, they were near an area that I had found a lot of clad at in the past. Then, it happened, I got too close. They were on me like flies! I didn't panic though.
All I was finding was clad so I, took my headphones off so they could hear. Before I knew it I had 10 on me and I couldn't shake them. So I made it a game. I would dig, pinpoint, then they did the rest. I taught them all about making sure it looked like we had never been their. "stomp the dig" is what we called it. Well, everybody got a coin from the ground and two kids, I know, are going to bug the hell out of the parents tonight. They expect me back tomorrow. I don't know, I made it out and me or my equipment didn't get damaged (very scary!).

I worked my way around the outside of a basketball court, it was time to go. I headed back towards the swing I put my headphones down near. I got a good 83 on the screen. I pinpointed it and I got an 8, 8" deep wow, I knew it was old.
I am really upset about the nose job. I have a pinpointer but I think it needs to be more sensitive. Now I really think it needs to be more sensitive and am going to be buying this weekend, Thinking about a Vibraprobe. Any advice is welcome. Here is the reason why, the pictures say it all. :BangHead:

Nice find!!!

Sounds like the kids learned a little something today at camp.

As for the nose job, we've all done that, too! ;D

Yeah, don't beat yourself up about it--it happens occasionally--when the ground is hard or we have faulty equipment, or we're not using our equipment the way it should be, or we just get tired and a little sloppy--or we get anxious because we're excited! The important thing is you found a heck of a coin and you've learned just a little more. I used a vibraprobe for years and I really liked it, but I've been using a DX-1 now and I like it even better and I don't have to change batteries....it's your call, just my two-cents.

Good job having patience with your hunting crew! Good luck on your future digs!

Good find....nice grade Barber. And, yes, like everyone else, I have managed to ding up some nice coins. :read2:
Don't try to pinpoint with an icepick or any thing else. You will damage too many coins, and possibly a very very nice
one. Learn your machine, and where your machine's crosshairs are......learn to point with your machine. Then, make your
plug wide. Actually, the wider and bigger your plug is, the better it is to replant. But, the natives don't want to see HUGE
plugs being dug in their lawn. (In your own lawn, or in the woods, there is no problem. :laughing7:)
Dig wide and deep. Then use your detector as your pinpointer, or get a nice pinpointer. (I use my machine as a pinpointer.....buying and packing an extra pinpointer is just that much more weight in my bag, which already weighs
toooooooo much.)
Have many more good hunts.....and great finds.

THANKS FOR TAKING TIME TO SHOW THE KIDS!!!!!

All too often in our busy lives we don't take the time to share our knowledge and time. I am sure that each and every kid that was there will remember their little run in with the guy in the park with the metal detector. They also know to make it look like a hole was never there. Some adults haven't even figured that out yet.

Ya done good!!

Bob
