So tonight I was wanting to find a new spot to hunt. Went to a near by town and found a middle School that appeared to be old Had a old building that looked like it could have been the original school building that was boarded up out back. So anyway hit the field and was doing pretty good on modern change, Lots of quarters and dimes and hardly any pennies:grin: Finally got a Deep high tone. On my CTX it was saying 10" and the FE and CO were all over the place but the sound was there all the way around. Figured it was probably a deep bent square nail or something but since it sounded good at all angle I decided to dig. Well hell, at a measured 8.5" in some dry dry hard dirt came out this little bugger!! So anyways it Made my night!

Love them barbers nice job..

Nice job and good looking coin.

Congrats on your 1st Barber!!! I sure loved and remember the excitement I felt when I found my 1st! Funny thing, I hunted for well over a year before I finally found one, then the next week I found my 2nd, and last up to this point, a year later. Good job on deciding to dig even though the fe/Co numbers were eratic, good idea! I should start doing more of that myself, probably increase my silver count! Thanks for the inspiration! I've dug a number of iffy numbered silver coins, but usually if I don't get at least a few 12 and 13:45-47's I walk away because I've usually just found bent square nails, no doubt I've left some silver in the ground due to my laziness arrrg! I'll remember your post next time I'm out! GL&HH

That is my secret. I will crank the tones up and listen for the faint high signals and work slowly. This is how I am able to find things right behind people. Basically, a dime is about 1/2" in diameter and it could be down there 8-10 inches deep. This doesn't leave much room to hear, pinpoint and find something that small.

Thank you for sharing those pictures and your hunt with us

Nice job on the Barber.
