I’m more of the stacker sort and holding for the long-term. Plus I’m kind of a cheapskate and used to buying at well below melt for silver, but I also think that silver is undervalued. Right now, if I was interested in buying, I’d be comfortable at 10x face value and they could throw in or keep the Barbers, wouldn’t really care one way or the other. However, I’m more interested in bullion at the moment and haven’t made any large junk silver purchases.

Kindest regards,
Kantuck

$11.14 x face online at the big vendors, free shipping over $100.

I buy a lot of junk Silver coins when doing the flea markets and would be fairly comfortable paying 11x face if they throw in the Barber Dimes. Most of the coins I purchase average VG to Fine in condition with quite often, coins of much better condition. As such, I can sell the lower grade coins and make a fair profit while giving the buyer, a fair deal. I can get a pretty decent premium over cost for the higher grade coins and especially for most Barbers.

I am trying to estimate the value of a coin collection I just rec'd that was an apparent collection for silver weight. does the 11 X apply to worn silver coins as well?

Yup pretty exclusively to worn silver coins from what I gather. Cull stuff mostly unless you get some Washingtons or Roosies. Then they would be a little less worn. Let us know and don't overpay.

I just ask because me local shop pays .80 for dimes.

That is a hair over 80% of melt, he’s not ripping you off, he has bills to pay. You could get melt value but your LCS is the easy sell.

If I was buying I wouldn’t want slicks, but might take a couple as courtesy, if buying a collection. 11 x today is higher than melt.

I didn’t think he was ripping me off. Honestly I feel the 75-80% melt is a fair area for most coins. The few that are under are 40% Halves which they do 50% and war nickels which they do 30%. I just wanted your guys opinion on it.

Barber dimes are 14x and up and the rest should be in the 8x to 9x range as long as they're not junk slicks. Anymore a dealer almost has to weigh the coins and figure their melt then make an offer back of melt for the common "junk" silver coins.

Thats sounds fair to me
