Nice Find, its not the prettiest Cob ever but it is a Cob!!!

nice finds congrats HH

It weights 1.57 grams- so I guess that makes it a 1/2 reale. Thanks guys for the compliments and the ID!

Thank you, Don! Its always interesting to wonder how these things end up in the places they do....

Appreciate the input!

The Mexican peso and its subdivisions were legal tender in this country until February 21, 1857 so this coin had over a hundred years to migrate north and still be accepted. The main reason for their acceptance was authentic Mexican coins were know to maintain their level of purity; people trusted their intrinsic value.
Don.....

don can tou suggest any books or articles i should read i want to be as knowledgeable with cobs as you

NJ Nuggetpirate,
(1)The Practical Book of Cobs (Daniel Sedwick) third edition (or newer edition if one exists).
(2) The Coins of Mexico ( Frank W. Gore) 1981
(3) Go to Sedwick's online site and research his archived articles and previous auction sales.
(4) 2013 No. Am. Edition of "Coins and Prices" (2014 edition is probably out now-includes US and Canada coins and prices)
No doubt others may add to this list and I'll be looking for those additional suggestions.
Don.....
