First cob for me!

I already posted the story over in the today's finds forum... just thought I'd drop the pictures in here to see if anyone can ID it from what detail remains? I've been looking all over the net without success...

Mexican: 1/2 or 1 real depending on its weight.

It weights 1.57 grams- so I guess that makes it a 1/2 reale. Thanks guys for the compliments and the ID!

I'd guess from between 1701 and 1733; within the reign of Felipe V.
.931 pure silver !!

The Mexican peso and its subdivisions were legal tender in this country until February 21, 1857 so this coin had over a hundred years to migrate north and still be accepted. The main reason for their acceptance was authentic Mexican coins were know to maintain their level of purity; people trusted their intrinsic value.

(2) The Coins of Mexico ( Frank W. Gore) 1981
(3) Go to Sedwick's online site and research his archived articles and previous auction sales.
(4) 2013 No. Am. Edition of "Coins and Prices" (2014 edition is probably out now-includes US and Canada coins and prices)
No doubt others may add to this list and I'll be looking for those additional suggestions.
