Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
After watching every U-Tube video I could this past weekend and rereading the manual twice, I hit the road at 0700. I had my eye on a recent demolition of a wooden building dating back to when our airport was a US ARMY Air Field. It is located in a very rough part of town and literally on the other side of the tracks. I figured all would be sleeping and that I would do a fast recon to get contact info off a newly posted building permit and see if I could get some quick hits at the remaining entrance cement stoops and perimeter. Too much trash to do it quickly, got the info and left. Will mail a "Permission"

I then went to a local park. I wasn't expecting a big haul, but a important one, a coin, a Clad Quarter my first! I won't go into detail other than to say my Garrett is awesome! the GTI is the best. The 29 cents in the pic were exactly what my Garrett said they were and at the right depth. All the rest of the items were ones I was unsure enough to just dig them to find out what they were. There is also a pic of a rock with writing," Life is worth living for on one side and Go to East Pasco Rocks FB page." on the other. Found inside the base of a tree, going to check it out more today if I get time. My darling bride has a project that I have put off long enough, installing landscaping on the front of our park model. She is right of course, especially since I ran my MD over the area without digging and believe there are at least three targets to retrieve!

Any "Tenderfoots" reading this...watch videos on u-tube on your specific MD, read your manual at least ten times or once a day till you get it down and go out everyday for 5 hours minimum and dig every target so you learn the language of your MD and become one with your soon to be true love, your Metal Detector! The sight of the edge of that quarter sticking out of the edge of my hole will join other mental pics of my life time. Right up there with 1st Deer, Elk, Bear, Halibut, Cod, King Salmon, Lake Trout, female part.....unforgettable. Thanks to all of you for your encouragement and kind words. YIPPIE!8-)

Congratulations!!! I was just like you seven months ago, your finds will increase in number and quality as you keep grinding away.

One of these days, one of those Pulltab signals will turn out to be a Gold Ring.
Congratulations on your first coins, but wait til you hit your first Silver Coin,, oh boy, oh boy.

and so it begins

Congratulations on the finds. You will be posting some great ones after you hit the tourist beaches at low tide.

Florida is a great state t0 detect...NEVER know exactly what will pop out.

If you are near Pasco County, the parks there usually have some degree of history to them. Many times there were old structures on site, and you may have to do a bit of research on them to get the best results.

Beaches, including urban areas (like Tampa) can yield a number of items, even Civil War era. It is ESSENTIAL that you know local and state laws and ordinances, and this site has a fairly comprehensive tutorial on The Who/what/where of detecting in Florida.

Nice job, and that is a GREAT machine.

If your prospective new hunting site is owned by the government and not posted Keep Out, I'd just hunt it. If they don't want you there, someone will tell you to leave. Private property, sure, get permission from the owner/manager.

Congrats on those first coins!
Congrats on taking the time to learn your detector, very important.

You will soon be filling containers full of coins. With some silver and gold in there too.

Buckle up! You're in for the ride of your life! Congrats on that quarter!

It's a heck of an adventure. You never know what will turn up at any time. Since January 1 I have found two gold rings, 1 badly damaged and I had it restored, three 17th to early 18th century small knee buckles, a busted 200 year old silver spoon yesterday, musket balls, Civil War Union and Confederate buttons, a CW Kepi letter "A", 18th century huge iron hinge, two nice silver rings and less than $5 in clad, and whatever I'm forgetting. I'm looking in old sites, not parks. Go door knocking and see what you can come up with. It's a blast!

And so it begins... congratulations!

sounds like your approaching this hobby with the right attitude , you should do well...but just keep in mind it is an ....addiction ...and yes it is a BLAST...HAVE FUN

Nice finds! Thank you for sharing! :occasion14:

I would warn you about the slippery slope, but I see you have already begun the decent into madness.

Welcome to the obsession sir.

Congrats on your Firsts!!! :occasion14::headbang::hello2:

Thanks peruna. I spend a lot of time doing my due diligence on the rules and actually have a briefcase just for metal detecting. I have printed rules for every place I go and follow them to the T. I love doing the research and finding the old pics, maps and copies of testimonials. I have always loved history and got hooked on electronics at a early age. I love this addiction, it is no longer a hobby! I grew up all over this state and know some great areas and some special areas on the east coast. I used to go down to the boats and listen to Mel Fischer and his boys and know where a few of the wrecks are. I have found pieces of coquina encrusted pistols, hinges, nails after storms. And believe that I may know where they camped as I found a blown goblet once 7 feet deep in situ, when I was digging a swimming pool. One of my crew stole it within hours. I fired the whole crew. And yes I am not going to risk losing anything to the law I believe my gear is much better than what I see them using! Peace.
