Metal Detecting
Decent weekend of metal detecting with the local guys. Jer killed it again as usual with Seated and big silver (he even tried to give us a chance with just bringing the entry level Vanquish vs the rest of his arsenal), Louis got some cool relics and a great button. Here is my take.

Nice tight 25 on the Nox and my first cut copper, 1831 Matron, half cent the hard way.

Silver quarter was really deep, inconsistent high tone going 30 to 35 to -9, one of those I bet this is rusty glob of metal that you have to dig. The V was in the leaf clutter so really smooth.

Cool thick brass religious pendant and a weird holed token.

Some buttons popped out.

My nicest complete crotal bell with some other horse and carriage related stuff.

Good luck out there!

Very nice! Congrats!

super finds!

Love the cut half-cent...I found one of those too! Love it. Hard to believe they cut copper coins like that back in the day, but they did to make change. I'll take a cut LC over a whole one any day of the week!

Thx! Not a valuable or rare coin, but man it was cool to see a cut coin pop.

Most of the LCs we dig pneumatically are worth little, but a cut LC is a historically significant find as is the occasional quartered LC. Display it proudly.

Very Nice!!! Congrats!!!

nice digs - congrats!

Nice hunt Thad. How many of those POD buttons have you found now?
BTW, in your picture, the cut copper looks like a large cent to me. A half cent is smaller than a quarter and that cut piece looks larger han the quarter.

Thx Steve! I think that is my 4th POD button in 5 years. I still have yet to find a true US half cent coin, this is a 1831 One Cent Matron cut to create half a cent. I know you have found a couple dozen true half cents, but I have not been lucky yet. Good luck in 2021!

Very nice coin and relic finds.

That's a very nice grouping of finds from the hunt, congrats

Nice finds Thad.

The cut copper is really cool. Wasn't sure if you guys got out or not.

The weather was crummy. Hope to get out again with you guys in the near future.
