Howdy all! Wifey and the brood are away at the trailer so Daddy is on his own wooowhooo! :icon_jokercolor:

Sorry but this was a lengthy adventure and as such may be a little lengthy in the telling. So pull up a stool. :coffee2:

I've always noticed this old stone wall at the edge of town. It has a nice little archway through it and what looks like a mini block house or something in the middle of it for some reason. Now that I've owned a MD all of 3 weeks I decided to check it out. The first pic is of part of the wall, archway and said block house. Neat eh? The next pic is of inside the block house. It's not a block house. Please forgive the smashed beer bottles and graffiti (local youth need a thrashing I reckon). The block house turns out to strikingly resemble an outdoor potty. The door is on the other side of the archway. Who builds a wall for 100' and then goes "Egad! I do believe we need a privy here!" ? I dunno. There wasn't much to be found around this area itself - just tons of junk - beer caps, foil, beer caps, wrappers, beer caps, and "oh look" foil! I took all the garbage I came across to be properly disposed of.

As that got boring and tiresome quickly I ventured into the woods. This is where things got interesting. About 75' in I came across this little concrete (i think) pad. Is this a foundation of a wee house? I dunno. There was so much scrap and iron around my friggin coil was over heating. So I learned how to discriminate right quick. Only thing of interest found here was 2 little lead soldiers in different holes about 10" apart. Confirming the house idea, yes? Swatting skeeters and getting frustrated I ventured out and around this pad and came across several of these metal tags nailed to trees. They look recent but I have no idea what they mean. There were about a dozen of them on trees of all kinds. Big ones, dead ones, little ones.... can anyone explain that please? By the way if you look close I bet dude smacked his thumb on that one! lol

As I was looking around for more of these tags trying to figure them out low and behold I looked up and right in front of my face was this. A tree carving! As I avidly read other sections of this forum (Treasure Marks/Signs & Treasure Legends to name a couple) Man I nearly shat myself. I almost dropped my camera down a steep hill right where this tree was as I fumbled it out of my pocket.

Now my blood was pumping. I didn't stay long at the tree carving, why did I need too? I now had photographic proof that the KGC where in Ontario!!! (just kidding) But it was astounding none the less. Comments on the carving welcome and encouraged. More hunting and more iron scrap and then I spotted something in the leaves. My first thought was "Cool. A rabbit's foot. A little fresh, but a good sign maybe?" About 6 seconds later I discovered the other one not far away. "Nope. Not so lucky these feet." For some reason, I dunno why - cause if it was the middle of the night and I was going to east a rabbit that's where I'd do it - I looked up. Unlucky feet must have an equally unlucky body they say, and there it was. Pretty high too, best pic I could get. First time I've seen a rabbit in a tree.

One of my finds a little later turned out to be this piece of bone and a hacked up spoon in the same pile. Not the same hole, but very very close. Like within reach. Now is this a morbid trip or what? Thank god it was light out or I might have shat myself for the second time today. Who would've thought MD'ing could be this fun? :tongue3:

I did find a bottom chunk of a plate. I have what looks like the centre part of the plates emblem. Lucky me. Definitely see England on the bottom and I'm hoping theres enough to identify a manufacturer. This would enable me to roughly date the wall and foundation right? Please correct me if I'm off my rocker but I'm hoping this makes sense.

Let me recap quickly if I may.... the day's FIRSTS in no particular order:

1. Who builds a dumper in the middle of a stone wall?
2. Discrimination (the good kind not the bad kind)
3. A tree carving
4. The KGC had far reaching tentacles
5. Bunny in a tree
6. Where the Blair Witch ate last
7. My first FIRSTS list
8. No coins - from here yet (2 rabbits feet gotta be worth something right?)

I finally had to call'er quits as it was getting past noon and I've got to work a night shift. I hear a frosty beverage by the name of Mr. James Ready 5.5 calling my name. In fact I hear an echo. I do believe I will be returning to this site as it's very close to my house. Thanks all and good night (day). Fish out.

Plce looks old. Relics,(spoon), looks old too. I'd keep at this site!

Interestng finds, CT. What was this site in the past? Possibly a park, which might explain the long stone wall and privy? Could the rabbit remains be from an owl or marten who ate his dinner in the tree? Keep digging!

Eh Trout, might that be some ecograffitti on that tree? Keep digging ;D jgas

That spoon is interesting. Notice the notches. It may have been cut in sections for payment. Is the spoon sterling?

Frankly, you had one just plain weird day. But, hey, it's Canada! ;D

That piece of a plate looks like it was made by Powell, Bishop & Stonier. I hope that will give you a good clue to work with. I hope you can date it. Very nice pics too, great job there. You have found a pretty old site to work on and I bet there's some good stuff there. Thanks for sharing your hunt with us. Best of luck to you.
