First day of deer season is a good excuse to take a rifle, and go up into the woods, which is what a friend and I did yesterday. Locally, the first leaves to change color are the vine maple bushes. Depending on the elevation depended on how advanced the color change was.
This was the first vine maple we encountered that was changing color. Trust me, that kind of underbrush is not a real good place to try and hunt deer.
