Yeah, this should get a banner. Seriously, how does this happen to a nickle? Usually if you smash them, they are uneven. At least, I would think so.
Unfortunately, it's too badly worn to see the date.

I put one on a railroad track and 1 locomotive made it like that.
 

I think I did that with a penny when I was a kid. Hmm, that could explain it.
 

But then again, Mariposa hasn't had a train in many many years.
 

Mic the edges and see if they are the same size, all the "trained"coins I have seen are not even. But a cool find!

Could have been tossed in a fire , causing it to melt a bit

Could be a broadstrike too. Is it the same thickness as a normal nickel?
