So I made a deal with my 10 YO. After school and homework, we would hunt for one hour each day. He needs to learn his new ACE 300, and this is the opportunity for his "education".

Since I was not totally familiar with the detector, I "borrowed" it while he was at school today to get familiar with it, so that I could tutor him if necessary. Out for about 1.5 hours in our neighborhood on the base with this result! This detector rocks for its price!!

My son came home from school, eager to get his one hour of hunting. We went over to just one of the soon-to-be-demolished homes and hunted the front yard. I helped just a little. He has a quick mind, and required very little assistance, having watched Garrett's instrucional video on the 300 about ten times!

His result was small, but when I heard him excitedly yell, I rushed over to find that he had found a diamond earring! (OK...probably NOT a real diamond, but I'm not going to bust his bubble on his first hunt!!).

Many hunts to come, and happy that we have a bonding hobby to share!!

Nice finds SittingElf. But best part is MD'ng with your son. Thanks for sharing...

I tried to get my 10 year old Bro interested & he fell asleep in the middle of the field - a wheat stubble field! That was the end of that.

Congrats on what will be a lasting partnership. I know Dad & I have many great memories. (Although it was me that taught my Dad)

I've tried to get my sons involved but not much luck.....so Congrats on good bonding hobby time.

O yes, I can relate...I mean I'm SURE I'd fall asleep bored to tears pulling hammered silvers all day! Lol...I have no sibs and my kids have no interest...more crusty clad for me! Ddf

Well I have to tell you, that young man is hooked for life now. He is destined to be playing in the dirt for the rest of his life... Great Job and congrats on yours and his finds!!!!

Congrats on your finds, and spending time with your son. My daughter started detecting with me when she was around 8. She is now 31. The memories are priceless.

Nice finds, congratulations! :occasion14:

Way to go you two. What a nice way to start the hobby. Gotta love finding those forgotten toy cars.
The fact that he is excited about hunting makes it that much more enjoyable.
I would hold off on going to a public park for a little while. Pull tabs are a bit discouraging.

QUALITY TIME WITH THE FAMILY PLUS NICE FINDS> PRICELESS.
