I have found a few brass tags in this same area but none that have B&O on them today i found 3 I guess when it rains it pours !! Here is a before and after I cleaned them with electrolysis . Anyone have an idea how old theses are ?

Thanks !! I agree 3 are awesome . Also let this be a lesson . Always recheck your holes they were in the same hole and I filled it in twice .. Now I'm thinking there should have been a fourth , it's odd that the 47 is missing ..

the RR use to use them as luggage tags they would put one on the bag and one to the passenger with a matching number . Can you post a pic of the insulator ? I have never seen one with the RR initials on it .
 
Personally I would never have cleaned them. You can get premium prices for tags like that. To each their own though. Beautiful tags and great finds. As to how old they are, the passenger terminal was opened in 1871. I am guessing somewhere near that time frame.

thanks for the link and the additional info . I guess I'm just a history geek . I'm don't think I could sell them unless it would allow me to retire and dig full time .
